So what am I selling you ask? Well how about a hot & sexy 1985 Yamaha Maxim XJ 700 motorcycle! I purchased this last summer from an older gentleman who literally rode it on Sunday’s in the summertime :~) The bike starts and runs well, has a nice strong clutch and good charging system w/a good battery (just topped the battery off with acid.) Mileage is barely broke-in at 18,100. I rode it approximately 6000 miles since I bought it last year. This would make an excellent second bike, it has lots of power so it wouldn’t be recommended for a starter bike unless you are careful with it. The motorcycle handles well and can be easily used by a lady or a smaller rider without fear of dumping it on the side, the dry weight is around 485lbs.

The previous owner said the bike wasn’t dumped, that it fell off the back of a truck, I can’t tell, but I had it checked out when I bought it and there were no problems with it mechanically. I have taken very good care of the motorcycle while I have owned it. The oil has been changed every 2000 miles, just changed a couple weeks ago! I put new tires and new fork seals on it last year. I also had the carbs cleaned and balanced. ($800 worth of work.) I would not hesitate to jump on her and ride it across the country.

I took close-up photos to show the imperfections in the motorcycle. Mechanically the bike needs nothing, the clutch is strong, the tires are balanced, there is plenty of pads left on the brakes. There is a little bit of seepage on the seals, but they aren’t leaking, it is pretty common for bikes that are 25 years old. When I changed the oil, I didn’t set the seal right on the oil filter cover and it drips a little on the garage floor, it does’t leak while riding so I haven’t bothered to hassle with taking it back off and resealing. If I get the time this week I will do it. The seat is not torn, just the stiching has come out of it, again something that is easily taken care of, but I lack the time to do (perfect weekend project for someone with a leather stiching machine :~) I did knock the bike over in the garage last summer and the right mirror fell off (oops!) The major cosmetic item is the gas tank, but to hide embarrassment I just put my hand over it when I pass other bikers! All kidding aside the tank is sound and doesn’t leak any fuel.

The only reason I am selling my Yamaha is that I am going to be moving soon and I won’t be able to take her with me :~( Listing this motorcycle makes me sad because she is such a nice runninng bike, it is quick enough to get you in trouble, but not fast enough to put you in jail.If you are looking for an excellent sport/cruiser motorcycle or one for small trips this would be an excellent choice! Can you see yourself cruising on the curves with the wind blowing through your hair on this fine machine? I can! So feel free to bid early and bid often, you just might pick up a sexy little Yamaha!
