1984 Yamaha Rz 350

$ 3,302

Description

PLEASE DO NOT BID IF YOU CANNOT  OR DO NOT WANT TO BUY THIS.  THIS HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY LISTED AND TWO BUYERS COMMITTED TO BUYING THIS AND THEN LEFT ME HANGING.  Up for auction is a 1984 RZ-350.  It has been garaged indoors for 10 years. On my home to the garage to winterize it during its last ride, the headlamp stopped working, so there is an electrical issue with the wire harness.From Cycle World:BLUE BOOK RETAIL VALUE: $4300

BASIC SPECS: A two-stroke, power-valve-equipped 347cc parallel twin with 26mm slide-valve Mikuni carbs, oil injection and six-speed transmission. A steel-tube frame with an aluminum swingarm rolls on 18-inch wheels with triple disc brakes. Its simplicity allowed it to be a light 371 pounds with the 5.2-gallon (!) gas tank half full.

WHY IT’S DESIRABLE: The RZ350 is the most modern and last legal street-going two-stroke sold in the US. In the first full test, we said our July 1984 cover bike rated a “perfect 10” on the fun scale. On Jerry Branch’s dyno, the stock RZ350 made 42.7 hp at 9,000 rpm; redline is 9,500. Below 6,000 rpm, the engine “doesn’t make enough power to pull the skin off a bowl of rice pudding,” read the test, but power came on strong after 6K. Hey, welcome to the fun zone! The RZ350 turned in an impressive quarter-mile time of 13.19 seconds at 99.22 mph, and that was with the OE catalyst exhausts. Fun and nimble handling are improved with fitment of modern tires on those classic ’80s wheels. A surprising number of these bikes come up for sale at reasonable cost, but original, low-mileage examples in excellent condition can go for double blue book. Aftermarket parts support remains very good.

Bike has not been started for ten years, but while it was running, compression was good.  I took it up to 120 MPH and it gets great gas mileage.  From the serial number, I understand that the bike is the following and is made for the US:RZ 350 L52 HPFRAME: JYA48H00*FA000101 ENGINE: 48H – 000 101 ~ 010 000USA’84The Bad:Bike has not been started for ten years, so you will need to tinker to get it started.  Ten years ago, I filled the tank with gas and put in Stabil fuel conditioner, but tank has not been drained or flushed.A mechanic recently inspected the motorcycle and found that the gas was very old.  He did not find or smell rust in the tank, probably due to me topping off the tank and putting Stabil Fuel Conditioner in the tank;The engine does not turn over.  The mechanic thought that this was due to old gas funking up some of the mechanics of the engine.  Worst case scenario, he thought that the top case of the engine required cleaning/repairing/repairing;The bike does not roll well.  Mechanic thought that the brakes may need addressing;There is an electrical issue;There are two minor dings on the left side of the tank – I bought it this way;Left side fairing has a deep scratch – also bought it this way – the fairing seems to be aftermarket;Front windshield is brittle and has broken;Instrument cluster has a broken non-integral piece;Left rear directional needs replacement.The Good:When it was running, this was the best urban bike I’d ever ridden – very light, agile and forgiving;PERFECT Starter Bike;Very low mileage for a bike of this age;Very light bike (350 lbs. dry weight)Great 1/4 mile time of 13 seconds!;Great gas mileage (approximately 45 mpg);Engine and mechanicals are solid;Aftermarket parts readily available;Tires appear good;I have key for the motorcycle;Bike will come with a Nolan helmet, a tank pad and an owner’s manual.My intention was to repair this bike and to ride it as a commuter bike in the nice weather.  Ten years, a wife and kid later, I have no time for it.  It is being stored at my mother’s house in Huntington Long Island, NY 11746, and she wants it gone – my loss is your gain!I love this bike and hope it finds a good home.  Thanks for looking at my auction and best of luck bidding.I have a signed transfer of the Certificate of Title from the previous owner (I never registered the motorcycle). In looking at my files, I also found an owner’s manual and a tank pad, both of which will come with the motorcycle.PLEASE DO NOT BID IF YOU CANNOT OR DO NOT WANT TO BUY THIS.  THIS HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY LISTED AND TWO BUYERS COMMITTED TO BUYING THIS AND THEN LEFT ME HANGING.
